Italy 2.0

Florence

One last hurrah before we left Vernazza, so of course we went back to the Pirate Cafe for breakfast before setting off on our journey to Florence.
Once again our room in Florence was on the top floor so had quite the climb, but also quite the view. The room looked out over the the square, so the evenings were quite loud with all the people hanging out on the steps of the church until all hours. Florence is a beautiful city filled with art of all mediums and architecture.
All over Florence are these little shops and markets. We walked up and down the street of the markets looking at types of things they had. We ran across a gelato shop that was calling us.......mint chocolate chip for me this time.
We climbed the 439 steps to the top of the Duomo Cathedral. After the climb we hung out on the top for awhile and took in the view. Of course, after the 800+ steps around trip, we had to reward ourselves with some gelato....mandrian orange and lemon sorbet.....every city we go to the price of gelato goes up.....one euro in the Cinque Terra now it's a minimum of three.
The following day was the Accademia Gallery to see Michelangelo's David statue. After seeing the David we walked to Bobli Gardens. This was a not so pleasant weather day so there was a lot of rain. We were already soaked so we continued walking through the gardens. There were several statues and gardens with a few fountains that were still spectacular to look at even in the rain. As the rain slowly began to stop we found ourselves some more gelato.....
We leave for Rome in the morning, but the one thing that I will not miss are the bells that ring so early in the morning here. Maybe they are just amplified since we are right there in the square. Florence is a beautiful city, wish there would have been better weather so I could have seen more of it.
